About

Chris’ work is inspired by the patterns, textures and colours he sees in his surroundings. He paints creating layers of colour until the image “emerges”. Paintings start with raw potential, build slowly, sometimes meet challenges and hopefully reach the stage when the final image begins to be realized. At that sweet moment it feels like the painting literally begins to emerge from the canvas.

Observing, recording and reimagining landscapes was at the foundation of Chris’ professional practice as a landscape architect. Chris now focuses on painting landscapes and sketching with pen and watercolour while traveling.

Born and educated in England, Chris worked as a landscape architect in the U.K., Hong Kong, China and Canada. He now works from his North Vancouver studio. His current paintings are inspired by the magnificent local mountains and forests in which he regularly hikes, bikes and skis.

Chris is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. His work has been exhibited in juried shows in Canada and Hong Kong.
